Email Spoofing
Q. So, how come you appear to have a spam email
from jasonpickering.com ?
A. Unfortunately, unscrupulous
individuals sometimes use an inocent website domain name as the
"return to" address for their spam campaign. This practice
is commonly known as email "spoofing". Email spoofing
may occur in different forms, but all have a similar result: a user
receives email that appears to have originated from one source when
it actually was sent from another source.
This is done to hide the identity
of the spammer.
It is done without the
consent or even knowledge of the registered owner of the domain
name.
It is a little like signing
a letter with a different name and is virtually impossible to prevent
proactively
